A suspect who was apprehended in connection with multiple larceny cases escaped from police detention in Thanjavur while being transported to Trichy prison. The police and the accused were returning from Nagapattinam after producing him in court.A search is underway to apprehend the accused.According to police, the accused Rajkumar, 51, a native of Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district was involved in two-wheeler thefts for a long period of time and several cases were also pending against him at various police stations, including Trichy, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, and Tir After questioning him, the authorities discovered that he had seized 70 motorcycles from districts across the delta. Following this, the authorities recovered all of Rajkumar’s bicycles. He was remanded in a sub-jail in Manapparai under judicial custody after producing him before the court.Two police personnel – one from Velankanni and another one from Keelvelur police limits in Nagapattinam district had taken the accused to Nagapattinam and were returning to Trichy after produced him before a judicial magistrate court on Tuesday night.At New Bus Stand in Thanjavur, they were walking to board a Trichy bus. Rajkumar shoved the escort police and fled. The escort police filed a report with the Thanjavur Medical College police station. On the basis of the complaint, a case was opened.
