A prisoner escapes from Patiala jail hours prior to court appearance

On Friday, a pre-trial inmate purportedly scaled the ramparts of the Central Jail in Patiala and escaped. Jail superintendent Manjit Singh Tiwana said that Maninder Singh alias Mani was lodged at the jail in a dacoity case.Tiwana said that at around 12pm, the Police guard arrived at the jail to accompany Maninder to court but found him missing from his barrack.aThe CCTV cameras at the prison control room were checked and it was determined that the prisoner climbed the wall of Deori at approximately 7:15am. The relevant police station has been notified, and the police are registering a case. The correctional administrator stated that efforts are being made to re-arrest the accused.
