Afghan patient receives solace in Jaipur hospital

A 44-year-old Afghan industrialist discovered medical respite in Jaipur after his treatment for a ligament rupture in Afghanistan became increasingly complicated. Abdullah Khan, who traveled from Afghanistan to Jaipur with his nephew Fahim Janah, had a dismal existence after his right limb was crushed by a hefty stone. Abdullah trades in unpolished gemstones. His injury remained untreated for over two years because he was unable to find solace in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Dr. Vikram Sharma, consultant arthroscopic surgeon, orthopaedics Fortis Escorts hospital, said, “In Afghanistan, the doctor implanted two screws in the knee, which was unnecessary and deeply embedded in the bone. Actually, he needed ligament reconstruction. We tried to contact the doctor in Afghanistan to learn what treatment he had provided so that it would be easier for us to treat the patient here, but we did not receive the proper information from him.” The fastener hindered the reconstruction of the ligament. Since there were fasteners in the knee, he explained, it was difficult to perform an MRI to learn more about the injury. “We decided to operate on the patient and removed one of the two screws in his knee; the other screw had already been removed by doctors in Pakistan,” Dr. Sharma explained. On September 12, the ligament reconstruction was performed and the patient was discharged from the hospital. During his hospital checkup prior to his Monday departure for Afghanistan, Abdullah stated, “I went to a hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan for treatment when I did not receive relief in Afghanistan. The doctors there removed one screw, but I did not receive relief.”
