Mohammad Asif, 46, a suspected Al-Qaeda operative apprehended by Delhi Police in 2015, was brought to his home in Sambhal district on Friday to meet his family following the death of his father on Thursday morning. Asif, who is suspected of being the head of training and recruitment for Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and accused of attempting to resurrect the terrorist organization, is currently incarcerated in Tihar. The suspected terrorist operative was transported in a police vehicle to his residence in the Deepa Sarai neighborhood under intense commando security. The latter allegedly encouraged him to enroll in a training center for terrorists in Pakistan. The operative allegedly also requested that Asif organize funds for two other men recruited by the terrorist organization to travel to Afghanistan. In 2013, Asif and two other individuals entered Pakistan and traveled to north Waziristan. According to sources, he then encountered Maulana Asim Umar, who had been designated commander of AQIS by Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.
