Chinese communist cadres are being instructed to despise prostitutes and stay away from “vulgar” entertainment venues in the latest effort to combat corruption and revive the country’s deteriorating morals, according to the state-run China News Service. Li Yuanchao, head of the organization department that oversees important personnel appointments, issued the warning that officials risked receiving poor behavior ratings if they visited hostess bars. “Integrity and cleanliness cannot be separated,” Li said, adding that “of leading cadres who fall into the abyss of corruption, the majority start with an inability to remain pure.” Cadres should be wary of businessmen trying to corrupt them, cultivate healthy outside interests, and make friends with common people as well as those of high moral and academic standing, Li advised.
