A student in class XI of an English-medium school who created a false social media profile of a school teacher, portraying her as an escort, and uploading her cell number and edited photograph was arrested in Agra on Tuesday, along with his cousin. While the adolescent was arrested and placed in a juvenile facility, his cousin Lala Thakur (22), who assisted him in constructing the false profile, was remanded to judicial custody. The SIM card used by the adolescent to access the internet was registered to Lala Thakur. According to Vijay Tomar, the cyber crime officer in Agra, the minor disclosed during his interrogation that he had created the profile of his tutor in order to antagonize her. Tomar told TOI that it is evident that the boy’s intent was to harass and malign the 35-year-old woman, but it remains unclear what prompted him to act in this manner. Reportedly, the student had attended Math tutoring at the teacher’s home for nearly a month, but she eventually refused to instruct him due to his peculiar behavior. After uploading her false profile, the woman began receiving calls. Tomar stated that the woman’s WhatsApp profile picture was used to create the fake Facebook id after being edited, and it was claimed that she charged Rs 1,500 per night as an escort. Senior superintendent of Police, Babloo Kumar, told TOI that the woman was inundated with inappropriate calls, and when the frequency of such calls increased, she went to the police and filed a complaint. The two have been lodged at the Jagdishpura police station under sections 509 (Word, gesture, or act intended to offend the decorum of a woman), 420 (cheating), and 66C and 67 of the IT Act.
