Drug-using woman, escorted by police, escapes imprisonment.

AHMEDABAD: On Thursday night, when she was being transported from Jamnagar back to Ahmedabad by bus, a female inmate poisoned her three police guards and made off. As soon as her escorts passed out, Mina Thakore (38), who has been found guilty in at least 11 cases of robbery, theft, and drugging fellow passengers on buses and trains, committed the disappearance act. ASI Pratapsinh Gadhwal, police constable Chiman Maheria, and woman police constable Anandiben Samuelbhai are still in a delirious state. According to police sources, Mina, who is married to Mohammad Hanif, has been jailed for 63 years for a variety of crimes she committed in Gujarat while using more than a dozen identities. In Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, there are other cases against her. On each occasion, the woman would become friends with her victims before drugging them and stealing their possessions. On Thursday night, she was being returned from Jamnagar to Sabarmati jail. The bus driver observed that the policemen were dozing off and the prisoner was missing when the bus stopped at the Gita Mandir bus stop in Ahmedabad. Attempts to awaken the officers likewise proved unsuccessful. A complaint was made after the bus was escorted to the neighboring Sabarmati police station. The bus employees recalled that the woman had purchased some grapes at the stops in Limbdi, Morbi, and Rajkot. A police official speculated that “the woman may have laced the grapes with drug and fed them to the policemen.”
