I fault my destiny, no one else: Lt Colonel Purohit

Lt Col. Prasad Purohit appeared in court on Tuesday to complete the formalities for the bail granted by the Supreme Court on Monday in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. However, his usually intent expression was absent; he was relaxed and even smiling. Flanked by cops, he spoke to TOI for a few minutes. I am familiar with myself. When asked if the public’s perception of him after he was accused of being a part of the terror conspiracy concerned him, he responded, “No.” “My mother and wife would have disowned me had I ever been dishonest or involved.” He refused to talk about the case and refused to answer if the RDX was planted, as he claims, and which weighed with the apex court when it granted him bail. When TimesNow asked if he thought he had been framed, he said: “Yes, it is not a feeling, it is a fact.” I desire to return to my family. I belong to two households. The first is the military. And my family, which consists of my mother, sister, wife, two sons, two pets, and my horse, if he were still alive.” He will be liberated from Taloja prison in the wee hours of Wednesday. Two active and two retired Army officers appeared in court to support him. They wanted to escort him home in an Army vehicle from the jail, where he returned on Tuesday.Purohit is wife Aparna, who is still in Delhi, said on the phone, “My husband will be released from jail tomorrow (Wednesday) as all necessary legal procedures have been completed.” She will fly to Mumbai to meet him outside the jail. She said, “Tomorrow will be a special day for me.” Tuesday, the Pune residence of Purohit was discovered locked. His mother, sister, and children have relocated to the home of a relative. Purohit stated that he was unaware of his new assignment. “I will go home first and then see. Very few of us have experienced this type of event. Am not aware of the procedure…. The post does not matter, I just do the best job I can.” His unwavering trust in the military was evident in every word. “Our army is the greatest institution. The only institution in the nation not affected by repercussions is… I want my son to enter the military. We are a military family. Will always exist.” (With contributions from Sandip Dighe of Pune)
