NEW DELHI: India and Japan are conducting the bilateral aJIMEXa naval combat exercise in the Bay of Bengal, while an Indian warship and maritime patrol aircraft have also arrived in Australia to participate in the multi-nation aKakadua wargames there.The two exercises are a reminder of how India has stepped up defence ties with the other two Quad countries of Japan and Australia, which add to the already existing flurry of exercises with the United States. India has deployed the multi-purpose stealth frigate INS Sahyadri, anti-submarine warfare corvettes INS Kadmatt and INS Kavaratti, MiG-29K fighters, helicopters, and patrol aircraft. The Indian stealth frigate INS Satpura and a long-range P-8I maritime patrol aircraft are currently in Darwin for the royal Australian navy’s two-week Kakadu drills.
