GUWAHATI: The crime branch of the Assam police has arrested three people, including the kingpin, for running an online escort service in the city. The accused are Saneep Kumar alias Mukul Bhardwaj alias Bambam (kingpin of the racket), his wife Diya Sarmah alias Junaki Begum, and Nayanmoni Patowary (manager of a city-based hotel). The police said that in this scheme, “all the accused got a commission.” The kingpin, Saneep, who had been on the run, was apprehended on Sunday in the Lakhisarai district of Bihar and is currently being transported to Guwahati.â His wife Diya Sarmah, who had been apprehended in the Patharquerry neighborhood of the city on Friday, claimed that she did not know where Saneep was. Meanwhile, a technological investigation of Saneep’s mobile phone numbers uncovered many locations throughout the Indian states of Delhi, Bihar, and Maharashtra. According to the police report, investigators determined that the suspect utilized at least 10 mobile phone numbers at various locations. The authorities were able to restrict Saneep’s whereabouts down to the Lakhisarai area in Bihar by using both technological and human intelligence. Police believe Saneep is behind similar prostitution rings in other regions of the nation, so they sent a crime branch squad to Lakhisarai to apprehend him.
