On October 31, Ravina’s uncle Rajendra Valmiki submitted an application to Sambhal DM Manish Bansal claiming that “some upper caste men will not allow Dalit community members to take out the weddin” procession in Lohamai village in the Gunnaur area. The police also contributed Rs 11,000 as a “wedding gift” to the couple. The heavy security arrangement by UP police was necessitated following “restrictions” imposed by some Urmila Valmiki, the mother of the bride, expressed her gratitude to the UP police by saying, “My daughter is very happy.” The cops ended up taking care of her nightmare.
