Juveniles suffer from a lack of escorts.

Bangalore: Of the 165 children in these homes, 130 have been lingering for nearly a year simply because there is no one to escort them back home or to the child welfare centers.Five children from Nepal, aged between 11 and 15 years, have been staying in such a home for over eight months. The rule is very clear — juveniles cannot stay at the government home for boys for more than four months. The boys are idling away their time and are rather frustrated, Vasudeva Sharma, chairman of CWC, told STOI.Last week, 13 boys escaped and 12 are still missing.The boys broke open a window and escaped in broad daylight.About the Nepalese children, Sharma said: “We have informed the Nepal embassy but yet to receive any correspondence. The police have also been asked to give us with escorts.” Of the five Nepalese youths, two are brothers who fled their family. Surprisingly, children from other nations or states are not the only ones who have to deal with the escort issue. About 100 children from various districts, including Bellary and Belgaum, are still on the waiting list. “The transfer of these children is constantly postponed and pending,” Sharma said. “Due to shortage of staff in the women and child welfare department and police personnel busy with election and VIP duties.”
