Kapil undergoes angioplasty after suffering heart attack

NEW DELHI: Former India and World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, underwent a successful angioplasty after suffering from heart attack late on Thursday night. Dev, 62, complained of chest pain at 1 am and was rushed to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute hospital in the Capital for treatment.“Kapil Dev suffered a heart attack. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed in the middle of night,” the hospital said in an updated health bulletin after mentioning only chest pain in its initial statement. “Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under close supervision of Dr Atul Mathur and his team. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days,” the statement added.Social media went into a tizzy as soon as the news of his surgery broke in the after noon. Dev’s for mer teammate Madan Lal wrote on Twitter: “Please join me in sending prayers, strength and good wishes to Kapil and Romi Dev for his speedy recovery. Kapil was taken to the hospital in time as he complained of uneasiness.”Later in the day, a short statement on Kapil’s Instagram account expressed gratitude for the concern and support extended to his family. “Thank you everyone for all the love and concern. I am overwhelmed with the good wishes and well on the road to recovery,” the statement read.
