BANGALORE: At 10.29am as she drove down Parappana Agrahara Central Jail main road in her Toyota Prado car accompanied by a convoy of 25 vehicles, J Jayalalithaa was game for photo ops. Driving down the 65-km route from HAL airport to the special court in Parappana Agrahara jail amid tight security, she looked unperturbed. She had the spotlight in her car pointed at her face. People came to Parappana Agrahara from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, among them were those supporting and also against her. From Madiwala junction in South-East Bangalore, there were banners along the road, huge cutouts wishing their ‘Dr Amma’ all the best. The first lot to arrive at the scene was a group of lawyers from Madras and Madurai courts. Policemen stopped them at the gate, although they tried their best to convince them they had the right to go to any court in the country. However, their demand was buried in the Z+ security argument given by police. Apart from her supporters, a group of rights activists came to the venue to protest the killing of seven persons at Paramkudi in police firing. They came with the plan of showing black flags at Jayalalithaa. A clash ensured and the police had to chase them out. Her six-hour stay at the court did inconvenience families of some prisoners who had come to give food. They were stopped by police. However, Jayalalithaa had no such problems as she had carried home-made food in the caravan.
