PATNA: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has made a formal request to deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Central Delhi, Alok Deep to provide a woman police official to accompany the rescued Bihari woman, Sazia Begum (name changed), to her native village in Purnia district. The woman in question, who hails from a village in Purnia district, was allegedly sold by her husband to a G B Road-based brothel in Delhi sometime ago. However, a Delhi-based NGO rescued her from the brothel and lodged a FIR with Kamla Nagar police station in Delhi on Saturday. She is a resident of Maghaiyya village under Baisi police station in Purnia district. She was allegedly sold by her husband to brothel number 42 on a three-year contract.NCW member Manju Hembrum, in a letter addressed to Deep, urged him to depute a woman official to accompany Sazia till she reached her village. Since she apprehends threat to Sazia’s life by the brothel owner and her husband, it would be essential to provide adequate security to her, Hembrum said. The Bihar government has already booked the railway ticket for the rescued woman and her family members to their native village. She along with her family members is scheduled to leave Delhi for home on Tuesday.Hembrum also urged the DCP to book all the culprits by launching a special drive in the capital city. The NCW member has also written a separate letter to the DM, Purnia, to furnish fortnightly report about Sazia’s status. Quoting a recent verdict of SC, she said the DM concerned should look after Sazia at least for a year. The matter came to light only when a customer, himself a migrant labourer and belonging to the same village, visited her.Bihar’s resident commissioner in New Delhi C K Mishra took special care to make her stay comfortable in Delhi’s Bihar Niwas. Bihar’s welfare secretary has been entrusted to rehabilitate her in a proper manner.
