During raids conducted under the current safety campaign (Operation Yatri Suraksha) in all five divisions of East Central Railway (ECR), the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has apprehended 29 offenders and recovered stolen articles of passengers worth Rs 10 lakh in the previous week. According to ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Birendra Kumar, the arrested criminals had targeted passengers either on the railway premises or in the course of journey on running trains. The RPF has also bolstered security at all major stations, including Patna junction, in advance of the Independence Day. The CPRO of the ECR in Bihar claimed that during searches on the criminals’ hideouts in Patna and other areas within the ECR’s jurisdiction in the state, they were able to recover several stolen things, including jewelry, mobile phones, women’s bags, computers, trolley bags, and other valuables. In addition, the CPRO stated that RPF personnel, including women, have begun assisting passengers under the ‘Sewa Hi Sankalp’ mission, by escorting them to their reserved coaches and helping them reach their destination points, in light of the large number of people using the ECR at various points. He further said that the RPF have been instructed to speak with passengers in need and assist them in getting to their destinations without incident. “Every single woman passenger is being provided full safety by women RPF personnel right from the originating point to the terminating point,” he stated.
