A senior citizen who sold vegetables on the Panchkula-Shimla Highway near Sector 20 in Panchkula was slain in an accident while crossing the road. Tej Ram of Indira Colony, Sector 16 filed a complaint with the police, which resulted in the opening of an investigation. He reported that his mother Ram Kali, a vegetable vendor, had gone to work as usual but had not returned. Despite searching everywhere, he was unable to locate her. The police later informed him that his mother is in the GMCH-32 Chandigarh mortuary. When the victim rushed to the scene, he learned that a vehicle bearing the number HR-07-T-1524 had hit his mother near the tax barrier in Sector-20 on the Panchkula-Shimla highway.The victim filed a complaint, and the police registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving on public way) and 304-A (death caused due to negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against an unknown driver at the Sector-20 police station. Ankush sustained a fracture to his left leg, and physicians performed surgery on the limb. Diksha Thakur, his injured female colleague, sustained cranial injuries. Her family has transferred her to a private hospital in Panchkula, citing inadequate care at GMCH-32. Meanwhile, Punjab minister Dr. Baljit Kaur has assured Ankush’s father that his son will receive the finest medical care. Sunday morning, Diksha was discharged from GMCH-32, according to a physician who requested anonymity.
