Women students will receive escorts from Varsity.

NEW DELHI: Starting at 8.30 p.m. on Friday, Delhi University will offer security escorts along a predetermined path to all female students who work till late at night in research labs and libraries on the North Campus. The students will be escorted from various locations on the North Campus to their residence and hostels twice — first at 8 p.m. and then at midnight. The university administration promised to address the students’ concerns about feeling unsafe while walking at night on campus when they expressed them in feedback forms and during their meeting with the vice-chancellor in February. While the university has chosen to escort the students on foot for the first week as the distance to be covered is a maximum of 20 minutes by walk, the university is also planning to introduce a bus for these students from the second or third week. Singh said: “We want to see the number of students first and then decide on the mode of transport. Although we are considering introducing a bus for these students from the second or third week.
