President Donald Trump was abruptly escorted out of the White House briefing room by a US Secret Service agent as he was commencing a coronavirus briefing on Monday afternoon. He returned minutes later to report that the “shooting” outside the White House was “under control.” “There was a real shooting, and someone was transported to the hospital,” Trump said. The president stated that law enforcement discharged the bullets and that he believed the individual who was wounded was equipped. Trump stated that the suspect was the one who was wounded and that he was escorted to the Oval Office by the agent. The White House was placed on quarantine following the incident. According to two unnamed sources with knowledge of the situation who were not authorized to speak publicly, the gunshot occurred near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, just blocks from the White House. Law enforcement officials were still attempting to ascertain the suspect’s motivation.The suspect was transferred to a local hospital, but their condition was unknown at the time.President Trump commended Secret Service agents for their efforts to keep him secure.
